Weather cuts short Warwick CC's Division 5 clash with Handsworth

Leamington Editorial 30th Apr, 2019   0

WARWICK CC fell victim to the weather after their Warwickshire County Cricket League Division 5 clash against Handsworth seconds was abandoned during the second innings.

It means Warwick were forced to settle for five points on the board, in a game where they were forced to bat on a soft wicket after losing the toss.

Adrian Passey (12) and Ram Kumar Singh (19) got off to a good start, before the former was bowled by Kieron Buchanan.

Singh fell in the next over, whilst Richard Rudnicki was caught by Sean Weinand after facing just two balls.

Gavin Dhaliwal (20) and top-batsman Tazik Sharma (26) helped increase Warwick’s lowly 44-3 score, until the former was caught out.

But Sharma and Umair Mushtaq (25) formed a partnership of 29, until Sharma was caught out by Gawayne Evans.

Warwick were looking in serious trouble, Mushtaq’s run-rate was aided by Michael Hope’s 16 runs, forming a 31-run partnership prior to Hope being bowled.

Rajinder Singh Bhatti, Joshua Osborne and Abhishek Sharma could only manage sixruns between them, as Warwick were bowled all out for 135 with 17 balls remaining.

Handsworth were forced to go for quick runs with the clouds darkening, reaching a total of 36 from 11 overs, including two hits into the boundary from Evans, whilst Rudnicki collected the only Warwick wicket of the afternoon.

Rain eventually disrupted play prior to the match being abandoned, with Warwick hoping for a full day of action against second-placed Ward End on Saturday (12:30pm).
