Warwick settle for point

Leamington Editorial 27th Nov, 2019   0

DEPLETED Warwick earned a hard-fought 1-1 draw in Men’s Midlands Division One against Hampton-in-Arden last weekend.

With the hosts sitting ninth in the table, clear of the sides below them but in close proximity to the sides above, the incentive to claim all three points and rise up the table before Christmas was made very much clear by Warwick’s approach at Hampton Road.

The visitors were put under a great deal of early pressure but remained level during a one-sided first half, which made the 0-0 scoreline at half-time a surprising one.

Warwick were unable to maintain their attacking approach as the match resumed, with Hampton the side on the front foot.

A sin-bin for Archie Gale added to the growing momentum of the visitors, although it was when he made his return to the field that Hampton took the lead from a penalty corner with 15 minutes remaining.

But with just two minutes remaining, a strike from David Bryce was tipped away by the keeper only as far as Steve Gibson, who tapped home a dramatic leveller.

In South East Division Three, Warwick’s fifth XI fell to a 1-0 loss to Khalsa Leamington in a contest that was dominated by the losing side.
