CRICKET: A SUCCESSFUL year at Warwick Cricket Club was marked with the presentation of two awards.

The MCCC Young Club Person and Under 21 Player of the Year awards were handed out following the club’s most successful season in recent years.

All three senior Saturday teams gained promotion from their respective years.

The 1st XI comfortably won the Warwickshire Cricket League Div.5 while the 2nd XI ended up third in Div.9 East.

Meanwhile the club’s third team finished runners up in the Cotswold Hills League Div.6, meaning they will play in Div.5 next year.

Rajan Bhatti scooped the prestigious MCCC Young Club Person Award in recognition of his service to Warwick CC by the Midlands Club Cricket Conference.

Congratulations were also in place for James Sood, whose outstanding batting performances throughout 2017 earned him the MCCC U21 Player of the Year award.

Elsewhere Matt Warren retained his role as first team skipper at the club’s annual AGM while Mike Hope and Owen Griffiths will skipper the second and third teams respectively.

Matt Hodgkin was named chairman.

Preparations for the club’s 2018 campaign kickstart next month at Warwick School.

The club will host its first indoor net session on Sunday, January 21, from 4pm until 6pm.
