Warwick crash to heavy Birmingham University loss

Leamington Editorial 23rd Oct, 2017   0

HOCKEY: WARWICK made a tough test even harder on Saturday as Warwick 3s lost to Birmingham University.

Missing two players on the morning of the match did nothing to help Warwick’s cause as they fell victim to a 5-0 thrashing against the students.

Birmingham applied pressure from the outset with Warwick holding a half court press.

The hosts played well for the opening 20 minutes, but a short corner opened Birmingham’s account after it was initially stopped on the line.

Later in the half, another short corner resulted in Birmingham University doubling their lead as Warwick found themselves two goals behind at half time.

Birmingham increased the pressure even more in the second half and – despite some terrific saves from Warwick’s Mike Howard – three further goals went in to end a day to forget for Warwick.

Elsewhere the Men’s fifth team lost out 4-2 to Stourport.

Goals from Dom Simpson and Sam Brain were not enough to secure any points for the home side.
