Tugwell flies the flag in Romania; more race wins for Allen - the latest from Spa Striders

IAN Allen set yet another club record for the Spa Striders, in another impressive week of results for the club.

He won the second race of the Leicester 5k series with a 16:14 time, setting a new record for the Striders at the event, whilst Chris McKeown (17:07) claimed second and a new personal best.

Steve Taylor’s (18:05) fourth place finish ensured the club picked up the men’s team prize, whilst Tim Down (19:00) was the fastest M40 veteran, with Ben Cohen finishing in 21:08.

Allen followed up that success with a first place in the Whitnash 5k fun run – where Lloyd Harriman and Luke Bennett finished below 20 minutes for the first time.




The Striders have also been represented on the continent at the European Multisport Championships in Romania, where Lucy Tugwell came 14th in 01:18:47 in the Sprint Distance Duathlon event.

Over at the Compton Verney Half Marathon, Clare Murphy 1:33:11 time earned a new personal best, while Carolyn Wilkinson (1:39:39) was the fastest FV45 runner.


Rachel Wignell (1:41:15), Clare Hinton (1:41:25), Joseph Mccullegh (1:45:12), Kevin Baskerville (1:52:35) and Lucy Marcovitch (1:55:06) were the remaining club representatives to finish.

Liz Draper finished in an impressive time of 21:14:00 at Lakeland Trails 100k, Adam Notley (38:11) finished second in the Lions Martian 10k trail race in Woking, while John Paul-Hunt (1:47:34) managed a 15th place at the Cannock Chase Trail Half Marathon.

James Hodges recovered from sickness to finish the Centurion Triathlon – consisting of a 2km swim, 82km bike ride and 16km run – in Luton on Sunday in 5:08:41.
