ANNABEL Crees starred to win gold and silver medals for Leamington Spa Amateur Swimming Club (LSASC) at the British Swimming Summer Championships.

The 16-year-old stormed to gold in the 200m backstroke, after qualifying fastest for the final, as she led from the first 50m turn all the way to the finish to win by almost two seconds.

And the gold medal added to the impressive silver Crees won in the 100m backstroke earlier in the week at Sheffield’s Ponds Forge International Sports Centre.

Head Coach Graham Nash said: “I am so proud of all the swimmers who really showed they compete against the best in the country – with Annabel’s performance being particularly impressive.

“Going into the 200m backstroke final as the fastest qualifier needed a calm head, but she delivered under the pressure with an incredible swim to claim a well-deserved gold.”

Fellow LSASC swimmers, Teia Hendley (16), Joshua Paton (17), Andre Onyekwe (15) and Charlie Rounce (16) all swam with great distinction at the invitation-only event against the top swimmers from across the country.

Alongside, Crees’s two medals, LSASC swimmers qualified for a combined total of five finals, swimming a number of personal best (PB) times and set six new club records.

In addition, Onyekwe and Rounce along with Axel Martin and Ned Stevens took part in the boys’ 14 to 16 year-old’s 4x100m free relay.

And Onyekwe, Rounce and Stevens swam alongside Dan Wilks in the boys’ 14 to 16 year old’s 4x100m medley relay with both teams swimming quicker than their respective qualifying times.
