Striders struggle in Stratford cross country contest

RUNNING: SPA Striders didn’t have to travel to far from home to compete in their league Cross Country League fixture.

Stratford was the venue as the men and womens teams took part – the women fairing slightly better in typically wet conditions.

The men finished 16th out of 17 teams.

Chris McKeown was the first Strider home, finished in 49th place (38:52). He was followed by Paul Edwards 61st (39:15), Adam Notley 90th (40:53), and Keith Wilson 112nd (42:10) with the rest finishing minutes behind.




Meanwhile the women finished 12th out of 15 teams.

Carolyn Wilkinson was the first Strider home in 52nd place (29:59). She was followed by Kate Gadsby 64th (30:39), Jo Fleming 86th (31:45) – the trio formed the masters team who took fourth place.


The squad was completed by Anne Hurrell 89th (31:54), Helene Wright (32:15), and Claire Murphy, who ran her first XC race as a Strider in 32:30.

Elsewhere Clare Bryan completed the Bedford Half Marathon in 1:47:10 while James Hartwright completed the Percy Pud 10km race in Sheffield in 41:36.

Paul Edwards was 2nd at the Nottingham Christmas 5km in 17:27 while Fiona Edwards finished the Half Marathon in 1:48:31.
