Leamington Editorial 27th Nov, 2019   0

SPA Striders tore up the famous Silverstone track, albeit on foot, at the Run Silverstone event on Sunday.

Luke Bennett dipped below the one hour, 30 minute mark for the first time in his career in the half marathon, crossing the line in 1:29:23, while Will Allman finished narrowly behind in his first Striders race in a 1:34:36 time.

In doing so, he knocked seven minutes off his previous personal best, with James Robbins continuing the trend by racing three minutes faster than his previous best by running home in 1:51:17.

John-Paul Hunt (39:23) and Michelle Hutton (43:17) completed impressive times in the 10k race, followed by Chloe Kinton (43:52), Anne Hurrell (44:31) and Ruth Tennant (47:46), while Tina Roebuck completed the 5k in 28:14.

Claire Davidson led a contingent of the club’s runners over the line in the second race of the Winter Series in Ilmington, finishing first in the F35 category by clocking 45:33.

Rachel Wignell (46:36), Matt Leydon (52:05), Kevin Baskerville (54:52), Lorraine Parsons (57:51), Georgie Acton (1:01:13) and Natalie Dellar (1:41:28) were the other Spa Striders who turned out at the race.

In Northern Ireland, Chris McKeown took the men’s veteran title in the Malcolm Cup, thanks to a speedy finish of 16:23 – five seconds faster than the second-placed runner.
