RUNNING: A COLD but bright morning greeted Spa Striders on Sunday as 44 athletes took part in the Coombe Eight.
The multi-terrain race took place in the grounds of Coombe Abbey, and involved runners crossing water – making the race a firm favourite with the club.
Paul Edwards stole the show, finishing the race in 51.13 – tenth placed overall – while Adam Notley was the second strider home in 52.24, 15th place overall.
Other top finishers included Ste Taylor (52:34), Neil Smith (52:35), Dexter Teale (57:07), and Gethyn Friswell (58:23).
For the ladies, Mel Venables proved the pick of the bunch – completing the course in 59:50 and picking up seventh places.
Venables was followed by Kate Gadsby in 9th (1:00:39). Carolyn Wilkinson – who took 1st V45 prize – (1:01:26), and Bethan Gwynn who claimed the 1st V35 prize (1:02:15).
Elsewhere Chris McKeown completed the Combe Crawler, an 8.5 mile race in North Devon, in 1:04:04.
