RUGBY UNION - Leamington nilled at home by Evesham

Leamington Editorial 6th Dec, 2021   0

LEAMINGTON RFC were nilled at home by high-flying Evesham after suffering a 22-0 reverse – the first time the club have failed to score in a match this season.

The home side trailed by 12 points at the break before eventually losing by a 22-point margin despite more than matching their opponents throughout.

Defeat for Leamington leaves them in ninth place in the Midlands 2 West (South) table having won just two of their nine matches this campaign.

The hosts welcomed prop Scott Peters back into the side whilst Ollie Boyes made a promising debut at hooker in vain as Leamington struggled to create openings in the first period.

After second-row Craig Smith had made a try-saving tackle – Evesham broke through just before the half hour mark with a converted score.

And after Evesham touched down again shortly after – Leamington found themselves 12 points behind at the interval – before conceding a third try in the opening exchanges of the second-half.

Leamington came close to reducing the deficit when the pacy Kofi Miller was forced into touch as he tried to ground the ball over the Evesham line.

The home side did everything but score in the second period as Evesham snatched one final try in the last few moments of the game to add some gloss to the scoreline.

Leamington are next in action away at Kidderminster on Saturday, December 11 with kick-off at 2:15pm at Marlpool Lane.
