RUGBY UNION - Claverdon stay perfect with Pershore win

Leamington Editorial 11th Jan, 2022   0

CLAVERDON RFC extended their perfect start to the season with a 10th successive win after they beat Pershore 27-7 in their first game of the new year.

Sam Turrell, Max Oxton-Morris, Alex Grove and Hilton Garner-Jones all touched down to ensure Claverdon’s perfect season remained intact.

The result means Claverdon remain five points clear of Old Wheatleyans at the top of the Midlands 4 West (South) table, having won all 10 of their matches.

Their opponents Pershore are at the opposite end of the table and were in for a tough afternoon at Ossetts Hole Lane.

And Claverdon struck first when a scrum in front of the posts allowed the hosts to attack the blindside with wing Turrell scoring in the corner.

The home side enjoyed some sustained pressure in the Pershore half and were rewarded when a clearing kick landed in the hands of Oxton-Morris.

The wing sliced through the Pershore defence before scoring underneath the posts with Chris Calcott adding the conversion.

And Claverdon then scored two tries in quick succession shortly before half-time.

Calcott and Grove combined for the first with the latter touching down after a superb offload from the former after breaking through the midfield.

And Garner-Jones added his name to the scoresheet when he supported Turrell who fed the fullback to score.

Claverdon are next in action away at Rugby Welsh on Saturday, January 15 with kick-off at 2.15pm at Alwyn Road.
