COVENTRY BLAZE head coach Danny Stewart has announced that Swedish forward Robin Bergman will join the club next season.

Coach Stewart is said to be thrilled with the appointment of Bergman who promises to be one of the most exciting players in the league after joining from top Danish side Frederikshavn White Hawks where he totaled 52 points in 61 games last season.

The Stockholm native started his hockey career in Hammarby before moving to North America to ice for the Cedar Rapids Roughriders of the United States Hockey League in 2006.

He later moved to the University of Notre Dame before switching back to the Cedar Rapids – posting 114 points in 148 games.

Bergman turned professional in 2009 when signing for Vaasan Sport, who competed in Finland’s second tier of hockey before signing a contract with Turun Palloseura of the Finish Elite League.

A two-year stint in Denmark was followed by a move to Lillehammer in 2013 before moving the the White Hawks in 2014.

Danny Stewart said: “He is a very high paced player that brings that element of excitement to the rink every game.

“He has fantastic speed, a great shot and is a guy that makes us more dangerous off the rush.

“He will be looked upon to score big goals for this club and hopefully a whole lot of them.”

The 6’0” winger joins the Blaze on the back of his most prolific offensive season and said he believes he is in the prime of his career.

The 27-year-old added: “I feel like I am in the best shape that I’ve been in and that I am playing my best hockey so far.

“From what I’ve heard Coventry is a great place to play and somewhere they treat players very well.

“I’ve been told there’s a great fan base and I’m very excited to experience that first hand and hopefully we can treat them with some good hockey.”
