Racers stumble to defeat at Swifts

Leamington Editorial 24th Sep, 2019   0

RACING Club Warwick were second best during their 1-0 defeat at Stourport Swifts in their latest Midland Football League Premier Division fixture.

Jack Downing’s 76th-minute strike was enough to give the Swifts all three points, in a match where chances were hard to come by for the visitors.

Despite this, the Racers were presented with the best chance of the opening half when Jarrell Hylton went through on goal, but was denied by Matt Fulloway’s last-ditch tackle as he lined up to shoot.

Down the other end, John Pykett lacked conviction in the first Stourport effort on goal, although Warwick keeper Charlie Bannister was eventually called into action when keeping out Mark Danks with his legs.

The Racing shot stopper was in inspired form, tipping over Pykett’s deflected shot in the second half before denying the same player with another low stop.

Danks then tested the visitors’ woodwork with a deft chip that rebounded to safety, though there was little that could be done to stop Downing from driving through the keeper’s legs to win the game.

Racing hope for better fortunes when hosting second-placed Sporting Khalsa on Saturday (3pm) at Townsend Meadow.
