Racers crash out of the FA Cup to The Wulfs

RACING Club Warwick were dumped out of the FA Cup, after a 2-0 defeat to fellow Midlands Football League Premier Division side AFC Wulfrunians.

Goals from Chris Knight and Jumaane Meggoe gave the visitors a deserved win, despite the differing fortunes of the two sides in the league, with Warwick unbeaten and Wulfrunians losing both of their opening fixtures.

Wulfrunians had the better share of the chances and eventually made the breakthrough on the half-hour mark, when Knight met a clearance lashed upfield by goalkeeper Connor Hopkins to volley a sweet strike past Charlie Bannister for the opener.

Despite having the advantage of the wind in the second half, Warwick were unable to grasp a foothold and fell further behind with 18 minutes remaining, as Meggoe burst inside from the right flank and picked out the bottom corner.

Chances fell to Joe Smith, Adam Knight and Danny Fraser, but neither of them were able to get the better of an inspired Hopkins between the sticks for Wulfrunians – who progressed to the next qualifying round.

Scott Easterlow and his side will look to put their FA Cup hangover behind them and resume their unbeaten start in the league, when visiting Leicestershire side Heather St Johns – who are also unbeaten – on Saturday (3pm).
