ORIENTEERING - Octavian Droobers Juniors excel at West Midlands School Championships

OCTAVIAN Droobers Orienteering Club juniors Andrew Tang and Henry Jeffries won in their respective classes at the West Midlands School Orienteering Championships.

Andrew, who attends Park Hill Junior School in Kenilworth, won the Year 5 boys class whilst Henry, who attends Princethorpe College, claimed the Year 9/10 boys class title at Sandwell Valley Country Park.

Fellow Droober Richie Mack, representing Kineton High School, placed second in the Year 9/10 boys class with Rupert Powell (Alcester Grammar School) second in the Year 7/8 boys class and Edward Powell, of Berkswell C of E, was also second in the Year 6 boys class.

And Max Straube-Roth, of Bablake and King Henry VIII School placed third in the Year 7/8 boys class to complete Droobers’ medal haul.




The event was organised by City of Birmingham Orienteering Club as pupils from Coventry and Warwickshire schools competed at the championships.

Many of the youngsters were experiencing the sport for the first time as Balsall Common Primary School took the trophy for best primary school performance.


Droobers member Jacqui Clark trains all the pupils and the hard work paid off with many juniors earning medals in the Year 5 and 6 boys and girls categories.
