Old Leams' trio set to make national bow

Leamington Editorial 4th Mar, 2020   0

OLD LEAMINGTONIANS have had plenty of reason to cheer after three players from their under-18 ranks received a call up to the England Counties squad.

Sam Bayliss, James Crabtree and Ed Righton have all been recognised for their efforts during two development weekends last month, during which the trio attracted the attention of the team selectors.

The England Counties U18s are set to take on an Ireland Clubs and School team in April during a two-match series on Tuesday 14 and Saturday 18 at Bedford Blues’ Goldington Road home.

What makes the feat all the more impressive is that only seven players from the Midlands were selected, making Old Leamingtonians the greatest provider to the Counties team in the region.

Bayliss, Crabtree and Righton will now have the task of working their way into manager David Penberthy’s starting XV for the matches and aim to leave the biggest marker of their progress to date.

It provided a bright spark over a weekend which was tarnished by the weather, with none of Old Leams’ sides in action.
