OLD Leamingtonians 2nd XV enjoyed a 33-12 victory over Leamington 2nds in a friendly.
The first fifteen minutes was dominated by the visitors and resulted in a well worked try after a period of pressure inside the home 22 metre area.
The conversion was missed.
Leamington continued to put pressure on the home side but gradually OLs came back into game and after a period of midfield play the pressure was transferred well into the Leamington half of the field and a conceded penalty by the visitors allowed the home side to gain deep territorial advantage.
From a well won line-out, good forward pressure freed up the OLs backs and a well worked try by Rhys Cory followed with a wide conversion by Henry Reynolds.
The first half ended with OLs having a two-point lead.
The second half followed the same pattern with lengthy periods of mid-field play, neither side creating any scoring chance for the first 15 minutes and then OLs stepped up the pace and began to dominate with good forward pressure and excellent back play.
The OL forwards began to dominate with Will Taal putting in a towering performance and the result was a further four tries – two by Taal and one each from Sam Button and Sam Griffin.
Three were converted to make the score 33-5.
Leamington, however, were not finished and the last few minutes saw a determined effort from the visitors which resulted in a consolation try that was converted, making the final score 33 – 12.
