WARWICKSHIRE women enjoyed a 117-100 victory over Worcestershire in a friendly which was played in a competitive spirit.

Highest winning rink went to Barbara Jeffrey with Karen Rice and Margaret Andrew (all Entaco) and Carole Simmons (Welford) who were definitely unaware of the fact it was a friendly game and set off all guns blazing.

They were 15-3 up at ten ends before picking up five shots on the 11th and seven on the 15th to eventually finish 36-10 up.

The only other winning Warwickshire rink was skipped by Jenny Corn with Chris Ward (both Lillington), Sigrid Thomas (Rugby Thornfield) and Donna Kerr (Royal Leamington Spa) who were fairly evenly matched with their opponents for the first half of the game but struggled to keep up through the second half until the latter stages.

They went into the last end level at 17-17 and just managed to pick up two shots on the last end to win 19-17.

Trish Jarvis (Wolvey) with Wendy Baxter (Rugby Railway), June Hands (Ilmington) and Joan Hall (Nuneaton) were also evenly matched for the first half of the game and managed to pull away during the second half, but faltered on the 19th and 20th ends and finished with a 14-14 draw.

Maureen Edwards with Chris Harding and Pat Lowe (all Rugby Thornfield) and Gloria Higgins/Pat Harvey (who shared the game) started well but five ends without a score made the difference and, although it was an uphill battle, their determination showed through and they pulled back to lose just 20-19.

Sue Hornsby (Lillington) with Dawn Horne (RLS), Chris Roberts (Stoke) and Rosemarie Geden (Southam) started slowly but kept their head and only trailed 20-15 by the end.

Elaine Taylor with Di Medhurst (both Stoke), June Millward (Three Spires) and Ann Harwood (Wolvey) seemed to be jogging along nicely and were 8-6 up at ten ends, but a strong finish by their opponents on the last two ends left them 19-14 down.

Warwickshire president Di Medhurst was delighted to present a Colts badge to Donna Kerr (Royal Leamington Spa).
