THERE was disappointment for KENILWORTH in the Warwickshire League Division One after they fell to a one-run defeat at the hands of Water Orton on Saturday.

Water Orton batted first and made a solid start with Robert Freeman scoring 36 as the visitors were 44 for no wicket.

The first wicket came at 69 for 1 but the visitors subsided to 119 for 6 as seamer Joe Boyle ripped through the visitors’ middle order, taking a fine 4 for 24.

Matthew Dawes added 26 but the visitors were all out for 153 in only 41 overs following an impressive wicket keeping performance by Michael Watts, who took four smart catches behind and a stumping.

Kenilworth lost an early wicket in their reply before in-form Guy Pearson scored an impressive 57, which included eight fours and two sixes.

Matt Dargan also chipped in with a fine 54, which included five boundary fours and took the home side to what seemed to be a victory at 111 for 2.

But just as had happened a week earlier, Kenilworth’s middle and lower order collapsed as the home side crashed to 129 for 8.

The ninth wicket pair put on 20 but fell one run short on 152 all out in only 31 overs as once again suicidal batting cost Kenilworth a victory.

Shaluka Devinda was the pick of the bowlers for Water Orton as he picked up figures of 4 for 49 as the visitors somehow won by one run.
