SIX riders from Royal Leamington Spa Cycling Club secured impressive placings in round two of the West Midlands CycloCross League.

The group headed for the event, hosted by Redditch Road and Path Cycling Club on home territory at the Abbey Stadium, to complete a 120-strong line up.

After a frantic first lap, Jason McNulty was sent off course in a failed attempt to head for the front, while Gerry Scott also experienced some early misfortune when having to head for the pits.

While the pair battled their way back into the race, Stephen Jeffries steadily moved up the rankings, while Andy Taylor, Thomas Smith and Spencer Tapia were locked in the midfield battle.

McNulty’s resolve put him at the front of the RLSCC contingent, finishing 27th overall and third in the V40s category, with Smith 37th overall and 15th fastest from the seniors group.

Tapia (61st) completed the line up of seniors to finish 24th, Jefferies (76th) was 13th fastest from the V40s riders, whilst Taylor (85th) and Scott (107th) recovered to finish 21st and 29th respectively in the V45s category.

RLSCC return for round three of the series on Sunday October 6 in Henley-in-Arden.
