THE MIKE Vaughan Cycles team were clear winners at the inaugural MediaVelo CC ten-mile time-trial promotion on Saturday.
Local knowledge certainly helped Rugby riders Matt Clinton and Jack O’Neil who finished first and second respectively while Liz Powell finished as the fastest female.
On a fairly warm day in Princethorpe, O’Neil was the first Mike Vaughan Cycles rider out on the course and he finished in 20.25 to equal his personal best time across ten miles.
This time would stand as the fastest throughout the whole afternoon until Clinton took off last and set out very strongly.
And he was the only rider to break that time after edging over the 30mph mark to win the event in a time of 19.49.
In-between those times, Powell finished 59 seconds faster than her closest female competitor after crossing the finish line in 22.33 on her first ever appearance at the course, which was enough to earn her 21st out of 100 participants.
And with Powell taking 21st overall, Mike Vaughan Cycles snatched the team prize away from Lutterworth Cycle Centre Team by just 11 seconds.
