FIVE of Royal Leamington Spa Cycling Club’s riders put in a strong showing in the final third and fourth category race of the season in the East Midlands Midweek Racing Series at Mallory Park last week.
The majority of the 40-strong field of riders opted to lower the pace in a bid to reserve energy against the crosswind, with numerous attempts to break away often coming up short.
With the five RLSCC riders keeping in touch near the front, Emile Glorieux found success after the half-way mark to emerge in the leading pack.
Spencer Tapia made inroads into winning the race when making a breakaway at a tight corner, joined by teammate Stelios Maragkos, while Matt Dowler and Gerard Scott slowed the pace of the chasing peloton behind with six laps to go.
The efforts of the front two were ultimately in vain, as they relinquished their position after a lap, with Maragkos finishing sixth, Glorieux in 11th, Dowler in 12th, Tapia finishing 14th and Scott finishing behind the pack to complete a strong showing by the club.
