Leamington Hockey Club represented by youth sides on national stage

TWO youth sides from Leamington Hockey Club had the opportunity to step out at the national stadium on Saturday, when competing in a national seven-a-side competition.

Leamington under-12s and under-16s mixed team were invited to play in the inaugural National Hockey Association tournament held at Lee Valley Hockey Centre in Queen Elizabeth Park – a venue used during the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

The U12 team advanced to the semi-finals, where they met East London side Old Loughtonians, after winning two, drawing one and losing two to finish fourth in the group stage.

Despite leading 2-0 through Keeran Umashanker’s brace, OL drew level before winning 2-0 on penalties, en route to winning the final.

Meanwhile, the club’s U16s also lost out to eventual winners Old Loughts in the opener, before falling to defeat against NHA Panthers and Indian Gym.

Both sides took plenty from the experience, with the club now set to hold an open day on Sunday September 1 (11am) at Warwick School to offer keen local players the opportunity to try out for the various youth teams.
