SWIMMERS Ellen Stone, Lauren Cox, Kathryn Lythgo and Sarah Chapman have earned their places at the ASA National Summer Championships.

A major change to British Swimming earlier this year saw the introduction of a qualifying window and the elimination of qualifying times for the National Championships.

This forced swimmers to peak within a few weeks and caused a nail-biting wait to see if they made the ranking.

An outstanding display of racing within this period from 18-year-old Stone in the 50m and 200m breaststroke events and 14-year-old Cox in the 50m backstroke saw the pair finish inside the top 24 in their events in the whole of Britain.

This achievement catapulted the girls with the elite swimmers in the British Summer Nationals which will be held in Sheffield next July.

Stone and Cox were both squeezed outside the top placing for the British Championships, with Stone set to compete in the 100m breaststroke and Cox in the 50m free at the English Nationals in August.

Lythgo, 16, is set to swim in the Scottish Nationals and she will be kept busy in Glasgow as she participates in the 400 and 800m freestyle and the 50, 100 and 200m breaststroke events, while Welsh competitor Chapman, also 16, will compete in the 400m Individual Medley in Swansea.
