THE SIGNS of improvement are there for all to see in the Old Leamingtonians ladies side but they fell to a 10-7 defeat away at Lutterworth Ladies in the Women’s National Challenge (NC) Midlands 1 league.

Lutterworth had failed to score against Leams last season and this time around they came out fighting as Leams fell to their first defeat of the season

The visitors pushed into the Lutterworth’s 22 early on, but were denied a try and when put under pressure at the other end of the pitch by Lutterworth they were able to put up a strong defence.

The hosts did however manage to make the first breakthrough with the Lutterworth pack showing their strength to break through.

Leams stayed strong under pressure and succeeded in holding up another try, but struggled to mount a successful retaliative attack as Lutterworth kept up the pressure and they were able to put another try past the visiting side before the end of the first half.

Leams came back fighting in the second half by retaining possession and getting the opposition on the back foot.

After a concerted effort in Lutterworth’s 22, captain Jen Vermeulen got the ball over the line to finally get Leams on the scoreboard and the try was converted by Vermeulen.

Lutterworth retaliated with a strong attack in Leam’s half, but Leams’ strong defence once again prevented the side gaining any further points.

They pushed the home side back up the pitch, but unfortunately it was too late and they conceded the match.
