KENILWORTH CC’s Sunday first-XI promptly overturned Moseley Sunday XI’s 157-8 total to win by four wickets in the opening game of the Arden Sunday Cricket League Division 3.

Moseley won the toss and elected to bat first, with opener Ben Williams hitting a top score of 38 for the game, before eventually being bowled for the first of two wickets from Kenilworth’s Krishan Umashanker.

Seamer Joey Poole also took two wickets, whilst Matt Casey took one at the slip.

Moseley stood on 88 for four, before brothers Dan and Adam Jarman were dismissed on 98 for six.

And while Moseley hit a late flurry of runs, the returning George Jeyaratnam bowled two more Moseley batsmen as they finished their innings on 157-8 from the 40 overs faced.

Kenilworth made a dismal start to their innings after tea, losing Henry Curran and Elliott Hayes Sorrell in the opening over, both being bowled by Dan Jarman for no score.

Umer Umershanker and Nathan Chant built a solid partnership, taking Kenilworth to 45 for three until Umershanker went for an lbw.

Shyaan Imam suffered the same fate, leaving Kenilworth on 56-4, but Casey helped the cause by hitting 31 runs.

Chant meanwhile, fell after the second-highest score of the game with 37.

K. Umershanker was then caught out for three, leading replacement Jeyaratnam to hit 31 not out, including five hits against the boundary.

His batting in partnership with Casey took Kenilworth to their required target, helped in part by a huge 48 runs in extras, including 35 runs for wides.

Kenilworth next host Knowle Village on Sunday, who lost their opener to Corley by 38 runs.
