Huge turnout at Leamington Half Marathon and Hurrell follows Tugwell's footsteps in Romania - the latest from Spa Striders

A STRONG representation at the Leamington Half Marathon on Sunday completed another week of action for the Spa Striders.

No less than 59 runners from the club took part in the local race, now in its second year, with Neil Smith (5th, 1:15:10) being the first Strider home – recording a personal best in the process – whilst Ian Allen (7th, 1:16:50), Chris Liddle (11th, 1:19:41), Adam Notley (27th, 1:25:31), John-Paul Hunt (55th, 1:28:50), Chris Wilson (89th, 1:31:14) and Luke Bennett (115th, 1:33:22).

Laura Peake (126th, 1:33:48) was the sixth-fastest lady overall, and with Smith, has earned 50 points towards the Summer Series.

The results of the remaining Striders to finish the race are listed below.

The Striders kicked off their week with a first in the men’s team event at the Sphinx 1-mile Relays in Coventry, whilst the ladies team finished in second.

Elsewhere, Lucy Walton’s (170th) time of 50:09 was enough for a new personal best at the Evesham 10k, while Mel Venables was the fastest lady and ninth overall at the North Downs Marathon in an impressive time of 4:15:14.

Making a splash over in the Wye Valley in Wales was Imogen Peck, who took on the Monmouth Downstream Challenge Aquathlon, finishing both as the second-fastest lady and second overall in 1:09:05.

Further afield, Gethyn Friswell was in action at the Challenge Roth Iron Distance Triathlon in Germany, completing the course in 12:26:00.

Anne Hurrell followed in the footsteps of Lucy Tugwell a week earlier to represent the club in Romania, racing for Great Britain at the ETU Middle Distance Triathlon European Championships in Targu Mures, finishing in 11th in a time of 5:40:37.

Mike and Helen Pugh competed in the St Neots Standard Distance Triathlon, with Mike (14th) finishing in 2:31:39 and Helen, 19th fastest amongst the female runners, coming home in 3:20:34 to rank first in the F30-34 category.

James (141st) and Lucy Hartwright (561st) took part in the Holkham Half Triathlon, where they finished in times of 5:07:10 and 5:54:30 respectively.
