Heavy defeat for Old Leamingtonians at Old Coventrians

OLD Leamingtonians were on the receiving end of a 64-6 thumping away at Old Coventrians in the Midland 3 West (South) division on Saturday.

The visitors had no answer to the positive play produced by the hosts that resulted in no fewer than ten tries with seven conversions as a result of a powerful display of open rugby.

It was OLs that opened the scoring however with a long range penalty from stand-off Brad James after three minutes but the lead was short-lived as the hosts scored a converted try five minutes later to take a 7-3 lead.

The visitors had shared the game up until this point and their pressing reduced the deficit to just one point thanks to another well struck penalty.

However Old Coventrians went on to take control of the game in a display of total commitment and OLs could not stop the steady increase in home tries which were scored following quick handling and good ball retention.

In the end OLs were simply outclassed on a day when their own display, albeit committed, was not allowed to develop into any tries.

This Saturday Old Laurentians are back in action when Woodrush visit the Crofts (2.15pm).
