Hat-trick of honours for Hywel Green at Kenilworth Golf Club

HYWEL Green captured a hat-trick of honours in the August Medal at Kenilworth Golf Club on Saturday.

The 17-handicapper carded an impressive 84, nett 67 to win Division C by virtue of a better back nine than Peter Eastbury 84, nett, 67, while Andrew Harris 89, nett 68, finished third.

Green, who was cut three shots as a result of his efforts, also lifted the Stanley Dunn Cup for the best nett score and completed a notable treble by winning the Over 50’s Trophy.

Richard Keegan 73, nett 69, triumphed in a hotly-contested Division A on countback from Geoff Owen 76, nett 69, Achawin Saiyai 79, nett 69, and Daniel Lane, who posted the best gross score, 72, nett 69.




Saiyai did have the satisfaction of celebrating a hole-in-one on the 142-yard 4th hole, while Owen claimed the Senior Club Championship and finished runner-up in the Over 50’s Trophy.

Division B saw success for John Edden 83, net 70, from Stuart Harrison 83, nett 71, Richard Moon 82, nett 71, Barrie Lusted 84, nett 71, and William Slater 82, nett 71.


Edden also claimed the Over 60’s Trophy with Denis Blasdale 84, nett 71, finishing runner-up.

Meanwhile, Hinckley GC duo Simon Hope and Ken Burke won the Open Alliance at Crewe Lane by virtue of a better back nine than home pair James Lamond and Liam Sproul after they both carded nett 61.

In-form Hywel Green and Ted Jasinski (Stoneleigh) 63 finished third from Hinckley pair Jack and Ian Whitehurst 63, Kenilworth father and son Jon and Tom Higgitt 64 and Mick O’Sullivan (Kenilworth) and Mark Newton (Welcombe) 64.

Previously, the latest Extra Medal was decided by countback with Steve Taylor edging out Trevor Lindsey after they both amassed 40 points.

Neil Meggitt took the Division B honours with 42 points from Simon Harborne 40.
