PETANQUE: GOLDEN girl Aimee Colley enjoyed a sparkling international petanque debut in France at the weekend.
The talented 18-year-old Whitnash star, who plays for Kenilworth-based Les Nomades, helped the England Espoirs women lift the European Nations Cup in Rouen.
Colley, who produced an excellent display of consistent pointing on a tricky terrain, teamed up with Sammy Thatcher, Kaylee Thatcher and Vikki Amphlett to good effect in the competition for players aged 18-23.
The England quartet battled through the qualifying stages to set up a semi-final clash against Sweden which they won 13-7 and they maintained their impressive form to beat Netherlands 13-5 in the final.
It capped a magnificent weekend as Sammy Thatcher also won the precision shooting event.
National coach Paul Lancaster was full of praise for Colley.
He said: “Aimee applied herself well in her first international competition and was not only a credit to the Heart of England region but to her country as well.
