LEAMINGTON ended pre-season with an impressive 2-0 win against newly-promoted National League North side Rushall Olympic.
After a goalless first half, Jack Lane and Tyrone Barnett struck to ensure the Brakes head into the Southern League Premier Central season on a positive note after victory at the Your Co-Op Community Stadium.
Leamington were denied an early opener as former Brakes goalkeeper Jake Weaver produced a stunning fingertip save to push Devon Kelly-Evans free-kick onto the post.
Veteran striker Barnett saw two headers miss the target before Weaver did well to save another Barnett effort and Kelly-Evans blazed the loose ball high over the bar.
However, the Brakes eventually broke the deadlock early in the second period when Lane bundled the ball home at the far post from a corner from the right after a brief scramble in the box.
And the home side continued to dominate with Henry Landers sending an overhead kick just wide of the post before a spectacular stop from Weaver denied Jack Edwards as he attempted to lift the ball into the net.
From the resulting corner, Barnett rose highest to power home substitute Jiah Medrano’s cross into the top corner.
Leamington begin the competitive season at home to Long Eaton United on Saturday, August 5 with kick-off at 3pm at the Your Co-op Community Stadium.
