Finch takes another big win against East Midlands elite champion

JAKE Finch took another big scalp on Saturday night as he beat East Midlands 60kg elite champion Sam Muddimer by unanimous decision.

The 19-year old from Cleary’s Boxing Gym took on his opponent at short notice, who proved to be the heaviest boxer he has faced to date, but stood up remarkably to take the first two rounds.

Muddimer was put on the back foot but demonstrated his quality to push hard in the final round as Finch’s lack of preparation started to take a toll.

The win continues the progress he has made in the past year, with Finch now in contention for the Central English title in March, before entering the Amateur Boxing Association.

Cleary’s Lewis Williams gave his admiration for his fellow boxer and believes Finch has the quality to make it for Team GB.

Finch’s coach, Edwin Cleary, expects the Leamington boxer to continue to establish himself as one of the most promising British boxers.

“Jake is very easy to coach, he’s in every day and is always looking to improve.

“He’s a tremendous puncher who looks to box his opponents, and the couple of things he’s working on at the moment will take him to the next level.

“All Jake needs now is time.”
