KENILWORTH CC suffered a 75-run defeat to Solihull Blossomfield to slip into the Warwickshire County League Division One relegation places.

Solihull posted 272-9 from their 50 overs with Edward Thompson’s 82 from 69 balls and Richard Weaver’s 33 helping the visitors put on 84 runs for their fourth wicket.

Stuart Cope (4-52) and Connor Shingler (3-43) impressed with the ball with Shyaan Imam and Joe Atkinson taking one-wicket apiece.

Kenilworth were bowled out for 197 in their reply but looked well placed to challenge Solihull’s total as they reached 121-4 after losing opener Joe Atkinson for nought.

However, that quickly became 123-6 and although Steve Rhodes finished unbeaten on 21, Kenilworth were eventually all out some 75 runs short of the required total.

Zohaid Zahib top scored for the home side with 33 with Cope 31 and Shingler and Imam (both 24) hitting useful knocks as Kenilworth struggled to put a meaningful partnership together following the loss of their fourth wicket.

And Kenilworth’s 2nd XI also suffered defeat as they were beaten by 51 runs against Stockton Star in Warwickshire County League Division 7 East.

Yogesh Narvekar’s 101 and Hardeep Ubhey’s 51 helped Stockton reach 261-6 from their 50 overs, putting on 107 runs for the second wicket and 98 for the third wicket.

Charlie Stranks (4-47) impressed with the ball whilst Dave Gamble (1-20) took the other wicket.

Kenilworth chased Stockton’s total in vain but put up a good fight as Danny Boneham (42) and Stranks (41) scored well in the middle order.

However, Kenilworth fell away and were bowled out for 210 in the final over despite knocks of 26 and 24 from Dave Smithson and Tarun Ajuha respectively.

Lastly, the club’s 3rd XI made it a hat-trick of defeats as they suffered an eight-wicket loss against Lapworth in the Cotswold Hills League Division 4 North.

Kenilworth reached 150-5 at the end of their 40 overs with no batter passing 30 as Will Thompson and Stephen Kelley top scored with 27 after opener Dhruv Vyas was caught on 25.

Lapworth chased down the total with ease to finish on 151-2 in 37.3 overs thanks to a sensational knock of 82 not out from Ben Wright.

Opener Greg Williams was caught and bowled on 30 by Dan Hone whilst Thompson claimed the wicket of Asam Nazam on 19.

Kenilworth’s 1st XI are next in action against Leamington CC’s 2nd XI on Saturday, May 21 at 12.30pm at Arlington Avenue.

The club’s 2nd XI host Attleborough Sports CC, Warks on the same day at the same time at Warwick Road.

Lastly, the club’s 3rd XI take on Coventry Blues CC on the same day at 1.30pm at Harbury RFC.
