KENILWORTH CC suffered a six-wicket defeat at the hands of Nether Whitacre after they were bowled out for 131 inside 45 overs in the Warwickshire Cricket League Division One.

Kenilworth found runs hard to come by and were condemned to their first defeat of the season after their opponents reached the target in 31.5 overs for the loss of just four wickets.

Opener Dan Horner top scored for Kenilworth with 28 with no other batters able to pass the 20-run mark as the home side restricted the visitors to 69 for 6 before eventually bowling them out for 131.

Nether Whitacre comfortably reached the target with Fraser Plowman’s 35 and Joe Broughton’s 30 not out helping the home side on their way to 134-4.

Darius Potten-Ravenshad took 2-31 with the ball with Jack Howard and Sandeep Kumar also amongst the wickets.

And the club’s 2nd XI clinched an exciting four-wicket victory with one ball to spare against Nether Whitacre’s 2nd XI in Division Seven East.

Kenilworth chased down their opponents total of 246-7 thanks to Dave Smithson’s superb 80 and Danny Boneham’s 66 as Ben Clarke and Dave Gamble saw the home side over the line.

The hosts number seven, Clarke, produced a superb knock of 37 not out which included a six and a match-winning boundary in the final over.

That came after Smithson and Boneham put on 105 for the third wicket.

And Gamble also impressed with the ball, taking 2-42 whilst Charlie Stranks 2-27 and Sam Davies 2-33 were also amongst the wickets with Will Sheehan taking the crucial wicket of Daniel Preece who top scored for the visitors with 75.
