KENILWORTH CC began their Warwickshire League Division One season with a narrow win against Barby having recovered from 64-5 to claim victory.
After bowling Barby out for 140, Kenilworth secured a two-wicket victory after chasing down the total in 36.1 overs thanks to Chris Prophet’s 28 and Matt Casey’s 14 as the pair added 55 runs for the sixth wicket.
And their task was made easier as Barby’s bowlers conceded 35 wides with Connor Shingler’s 18 and Stuart Cope’s 15 also proving useful to the run chase.
Darius Potten-Ravenshad impressed with the ball for Kenilworth as he took 4-19 with Shingler 2-28 and Casey, Steve Rhodes and Jack Howard also taking wickets to limit their opponents to 140 all out.
And the club’s second XI were also successful against Barby in Division Seven East as they secured an 18-run victory.
Kenilworth were bowled out for 139 and were able to reduce their opponents to 121 in 39 overs as Kevin Tobin took figures of 6-25 with some stunning off spin to rip through Barby’s top and middle order.
Opener Dan Horner was by far the mainstay of Kenilworth’s innings as he hit a superb 75 with all other batsmen unable to reach double figures apart from youngster Will Machin,who made 18 and Tobin who made 11.
Barby looked set for victory until Tobin’s masterful spell with Josh Charlwood 2-20 and Tom Skinner and Ben Clarke also claiming wickets.
Kenilworth are next in action in a double header against Nether Whitacre on Saturday, April 23 with the first XI away at Coton Road and the second XI at home with both matches to begin at 12.30pm.
