Colts team a just reward for Claverdon RFC's efforts

A MILESTONE weekend is in store for Claverdon RFC as their new Colts team get the new season underway on Sunday.

It will be the first time in more than 20 years that the club has fielded an U17/18 team, joining the likes of the Minis and Juniors – running teams down to U6’s and facilitating over 250 budding players – in ending their six-month absence from rugby this weekend.

With the club applying all Government guidance to ensure that players remain safe on the field, in line with the RFU’s ‘Return to Play’ guidelines, Colts team manager Ian Lynch says the weekend will be a celebration of the development work done by the club in recent years.

“When we started coaching our group as 6 year olds, it was always our plan to make rugby inclusive and enjoyable so that they kept coming back for more,” he said.

“We did this with the ultimate aim of taking them through to a Colts team. We’ve reached that goal this season, which is a massive credit to the club, coaches, parents and players.”

Claverdon are always open to new players joining the ranks, and invite interested parties to get in touch via the official website at claverdonrfc.rfu.club, or just by turning up on a Sunday morning to see what the club is all about.
