SPA Striders runner Ian Allen put right the wrongs of being denied a new club record last month by breaking a new one in the Gloucester 20 at the weekend.
After an error by the lead vehicle taking a wrong turning when directing the front runners in the Tarpley 20, his record finish was not honoured – but his time of 1:57:48 in the South-West to place him second overall broke the club record by almost two minutes.
Adam Notley was next to follow for the Striders in 16th (2:07:08) – taking seven minutes off his personal best, Kat Lambeth achieving the same feat with her 2:41:43 finish.
Mike Cox took five minutes off his best time in 2:46:44, Mairi Walker finished in 2:47:35, whilst Sandra Stokes’ 3:05:24 finish was the third fastest time in the V55 category, also knocking minutes from her personal best time.
Over in the Milton Keynes 20 mile event, Stuart Williamson came home in 2:47:51; meanwhile Steve Taylor finished the Reading Half in 1:24:39.
Elsewhere, Lisa Edgerton and Alun Wong completed the Hampton Palace Half, Lisa securing a personal best of 2:11, regardless of the bellowing headwinds.
Tom Holbrook marked his comeback to action with a 42:30 time in the Shrewsbury 10k, and Mel Venables came first in the V35 category at the Banbury 15 – finishing in 1:47:34.
Rich Sykes and Lucy Tugwell were the other Striders in action, taking part in Sunday’s Lakeland Trails Cartmel 18km, which was reduced to a 10km event due to the weather conditions.
Despite having to withstand wind speeds of over 45mph, Rich finished in 49:35, and Lucy came home in a time of 59:18.
