WI members have been have been busy raising funds for the maternity unit at Warwick Hospital.

Warwick Women’s Institute group recently presented a cheque for £420 to Wendy Jones, head of midwifery at the South Warwickshire NHS Foundation Trust (SWFT) and Helen Keast, Chair of the SWFT maternity partnership.

The organisation picked the unit as their charity of the year after a presentation by Wendy and Helen which highlighted how important the unit was to local families.

Since then the group has worked hard to raise funds, from hosting a number of cake sales with the ever popular trade of jams and chutneys adding to the total.

And they also made bunting to be placed in the communal mothers room to make it more homely.

Gillian Alderman, chair of the Warwick WI, said: “This is all about women helping women, we have a number of mothers among our membership so if we can help the next generation then we are more than happy to lend a hand.”
