A PETROL station employee attempted to scare off an armed robber by banging on the pumps when a garage in Warwick was targeted.

Police are appealing for witnesses after the Esso garage on Stratford Road was robbed at around 11.30pm on Saturday (February 23).

The employee working in the store heard someone shouting ‘give me the money’ and fearing a robbery was in progress attempted to scare off the thief by running outside and banging on the pumps.

When police arrived they discovered the till had been opened and cigarettes also taken. It is not known how much was stolen.

The thief was believed to have been carrying a weapon.

Officers are calling for anyone with information or who saw anyone acting suspiciously to contact them.
