Tree sent tumbling by high winds in Leamington

ALTHOUGH the district managed to avoid the worst of the tail-end of Hurricane Gonzalo, it did not fully escape, as this photo shows.

This tree on Beverley Road was sent crashing to the ground following heavy winds in Leamington on Tuesday afternoon (October 21).

It was cleared shortly afterwards by Warwickshire County Council’s forestry team, who went out to 12 fallen trees across the county – including one in Stoneleigh and two in Kenilworth.

The hurricane, which battered parts of the Caribbean, claimed the lives of two people in the UK.

A woman was killed when high winds caused a tree to fall into a street in London and a man was crushed to death under a van in Essex.
