A WOMAN has escaped serious injury after her car was destroyed following a fire and a crash with a lorry.

Emergency services were called to the southbound carriageway of the M40 between the Bishops Tachbrook and Gaydon junctions at around 11.30am on Tuesday (February 21).

They found a car and lorry which had crashed and the car was ablaze.

The car driver, a woman in her 20s, managed to get out of the vehicle before it set alight and the lorry driver, a man, was uninjured.

A spokesman for West Midlands Ambulance Service said: “Thankfully the car driver had already got out of the vehicle prior to it setting on fire.

“She was treated by ambulance crews for back pain suffered in the collision and given pain relief before being transported to Warwick Hospital for further assessment.”

The crash saw part of the motorway closed and huge tailbacks on the road.
