THE LEADER of Warwickshire County Council has welcomed a £20million boost for social care in the county.

Chancellor of the Exchequer Philip Hammond, in his budget last week, pledged an extra £2billion to tackle the crisis in social care funding across the country.

Warwickshire County Council its share of the cash over three years with £8million being made available in the first year of funding.

The £20million will be on top of an extra two per cent hike in council tax bills in Warwickshire specifically for social care – to help those who need extra care or support, practical or emotional, to lead an active life and do everyday things many take for granted.

Coun Seccombe said: “Warwickshire County Council have always placed the needs of our county’s most vulnerable residents at the centre of our efforts to ensure support for people at every stage of their lives.

“During the budget setting process last month councillors from across the political divide agreed to a two per cent precept to help fund social care and to help meet the additional cost to the council of the National Living Wage.

“With this additional funding from the Government we can now further safeguard those services in social care that have come under considerable pressure in recent years.
