A SCHOOL governor has resigned after being arrested on suspicion of child grooming.

The former Myton School governor stepped down after being arrested in Manchester as part of an ongoing police investigation.

He was appointed to his position at the school on Myton Road last September and headteacher Andy Perry says all necessary checks were carried out at the time.

He added the safeguarding of pupils is of the ‘highest priority’.

Mr Perry said: “During his short tenure the school followed its safeguarding processes at all times and following a meeting with the police, we can confirm that none of the allegations relate to the school or its pupils.”

Warwickshire Police said: “A 67-year-old man from Warwick was arrested in Manchester on Saturday on suspicion of engaging in sexual communication with a child.

“He has been released on bail with conditions.

“Enquiries are ongoing.”
