A FUND-RAISING mum is showing she knows best after raising enough to enable parents to stay together in Warwick Hospital’s maternity department.
It will be the first time mums and dads can stop in the same room overnight after a difficult labour.
Solihull mum Nikki Francis has taken part in sponsored runs and organised several events to raise the £2,000 needed to buy two chairs which convert into beds for the hospital’s Swan Ward.
The chairs will be situated in side rooms so parents can stay together if a mum is kept in overnight.
Nikki – who found support group ‘Mum knows best Warwickshire’ – said: “The chair can be folded out into a bed to enable dads to stay over in those all-important first few hours and more importantly to assist mums who may have had difficulty during labour. Something that isn’t currently possible.”
The mum started out raising enough to buy just one chair, but after seeing what a difference they made she set up more events to raise another £1,000.
And she’s not stopping there, she wants to raise enough to put a bed in all five side rooms.
She said: “I’m so delighted that we were able to raise enough money to purchase a second bed for the maternity ward. This will make such a difference to so many future parents and their little ones, I know how much of a difference this chair would have made to us when we had our babies in the hospital. I am hoping we can continue to raise money so Swan Ward can fill all the remaining side wards.”
