A CHARITY shop in Leamington celebrated its 25th anniversary alongside one of its most committed and long-time volunteers.

Vera Oughton has dedicated her spare time to the Myton Hospice shop on Warwick Street since the day it opened in 1992.

The 88 year-old recalled fond memories of the shop, including the many years she spent working there alongside her late sister.

She also thanked the many regulars who came into the shop to buy items and make donations, which have helped the oldest of Myton’s 20 shops raise £1.8 million for the charity, which runs three hospices in Warwick, Coventry and Rugby, as well as a home care service.

Kingsley Hasler, who has managed the shop for 11 years, said: “Every day volunteers come in for nothing and I value them more than they know, we couldn’t survive without our volunteers.

“We like to have a laugh and a cup of tea and a natter. Every day is different.”
