Men charged with Cody Fisher murder appear in court

Leamington Editorial 2nd Jan, 2023   0

TWO men charged with the murder of Stratford Town footballer Cody Fisher have been remanded in custody after appearing at Birmingham Crown Court today.

Kami Carpenter, aged 21, of no fixed address, and Remy Gordon, aged 22, of Cofton Park Drive, Birmingham,  were charged with murder and affray following 23-year-old Cody’s death at the Crane nightclub in Digbeth on Boxing Day.

The pair did not enter a plea to the murder charge but both pleaded guilty to the affray charge.

They were ordered to reappear at Birmingham Crown Court on Wednesday and a further hearing was also set for January 30.

A post-mortem examination confirmed school sports coach Mr Fisher died of a stab wound.

The Digbeth nightclub had its licence suspended following Mr Fisher’s death.

Stratford Town’s Southern League match today with Bromsgrove Sporting, for who Cody also previously played,  was postponed following a request from the Stratford club to the league – as a mark of respect for Cody’s family and friends and in recognition of the “significant emotions” within the club itself.

Stratford Town FC also posted a tribute on its website which read: “Our sincere condolences go to the family and friends of Cody Fisher.

“Our thoughts are with the you at this very difficult time.

“Cody made 54 appearance for The Bards and having started with the club in 2018.”

Keen footballer Mr Fisher also played left-back for a number of other non league sides in the midlands. Injury had prevented him turning out for Stratford this season.
