A 26 year-old man from the town has been arrested on suspicion of rape and bailed until Tuesday April 7.

It follows an attack on Riverside Walk, close to the River Leam off Newbold Terrace East, on Friday March 13.

The 19 year-old victim, was physically and sexually assaulted by a man unknown to her.

Detectives remain keen to talk to a man who was walking his dog in the area around the time of the attack – sometime between 5.30pm and 6.30pm.

Det Ch Insp Pete Hill said: “I am particularly keen to hear from a male dog walker who walked passed the victim as she walked along the riverside footpath in the direction of the leisure centre.

“I would also like to hear from anyone who used the footpath between 5pm and 7pm on Friday 13th March 2015 as they may hold valuable information that could assist identifying the attacker.”
