Jaguar Land Rover plans to move 300 workers to former airfield site

Leamington Editorial 13th Jul, 2015 Updated: 28th Oct, 2016

JAGUAR Land Rover (JLR) has unveiled plans to develop a former airfield site in Fen End and relocate 300 workers.

It bought the old RAF Honiley airbase near Temple Balsall in September and wants to move its vehicle operations team there who prepare and refine vehicles for global events and product launches.

JLR plans to move the 300-strong team which are currently based at Gaydon, Whitley and Browns Lane, to the new facility.

Planning permission is expected to be sought from Warwick District Council within the next few weeks.

The plans for the latest development include a new building as well as a roundabout.

Sukhi Clark, planning manager, said: “We have chosen to develop Fen End because it is perfectly within a short distance of our engineering and manufacturing centres.

“The vehicle operations team is split across three different locations and the new development at Fen End will bring the team together in one location, which is more efficient and environmentally friendly.

“There was a lot of positive feedback at the exhibition and we hope that if planning permission is given by Warwick District Council we will be able to start work in spring 2016.”

JLR bought the 200-acre site last September and already holds classic car driving days at the airfield.

The land was previously a military airfield, RAF Honiley, and was used by a range of squadrons defending the Midlands during World War Two.

It was also used by Prodrive to develop performance cars in partnership with manufacturers for many years was also used by other manufacturers for launches and driving events – including Land Rover, who tested prototypes of the first Range Rover there.
