Teenage boy arrested following huge blaze at Warwick pub

A TEENAGE boy has been arrested on suspicion of arson following a fire which gutted a derelict Warwick pub.

Nearly 20 calls were made to Warwickshire Fire and Rescue Service about the fire at the Great Western Arms Pub near the town’s railway station.

The blaze began at around 4.30pm on Thursday August 25 but fire crews were at the scene on Coventry Road for most of the night after flames engulfed the entire building. Part of the former pub had also collapsed, meaning the fire could only be tackled from outside.

A diversion was set up, with people instead having to drive past the hospital while crews worked to bring the blaze under control.

A police spokesman told the Observer: “The fire at The Great Western Arms is now being treated as suspicious.

“A teenage boy has been arrested on suspicion of arson and has been released under investigation.”

Anyone with information is asked to call 101 and speak to police.
