GREEN-FINGERED pupils have been tending to tomatoes in Jephson Gardens.
More than 600 pairs of helpful hands from 18 local schools have helped grow ‘Solanum lycopersicum’ – otherwise known as the tomato plant – in the award-winning sensory garden.
The tomatoes will be harvested for the schools by the council’s Green Spaces team until the summer holidays.
After this, visitors to Jephson Gardens are welcome to help themselves to the fruit for their own sandwiches and salads.
